Message from the President:
Reviewing the Past and Looking Forward
In reviewing our accomplishments in 2010, I am excited about the future of ATU Local 1300. We are proud that Local 1300 secured a new contract for its members that included a long overdue pay increase. The Officers worked tirelessly to make this a reality. The previous year also saw us defend the membership in the media, and hold individuals accountable for their false accusations and unfair statements regarding tampering with fare boxes. Concurrently, the union was able to support and secure hard earned benefits for several individuals whose jobs were in jeopardy. Looking forward, we will continue to ensure that our members are treated fairly.
We are committed to fighting for the rights of all union members. ATU Local 1300 received its charter in 1942 and has experienced decades of effectively fighting for the rights of our members. Many of these efforts have been successful, however, there were times where we had to go to arbitration. This past year we have seen attempts to jeopardize several members’ livelihoods without just cause. Our goal is to minimize the number of personal attacks on the union member’s rights.
This is a major task that can be accomplished successfully with the support of all Local 1300 members. We can only reach these goals if we are united.
Throughout the years, this Union has been striving to unite us all as one. The renewed effort to work harmoniously is encouraging, and will enable us to act as your representatives more effectively. We must and will speak with one voice, especially with a new contract coming up for negotiation in 2012.
We have a democratic process that we use to set the direction of the organization. When our views are not those of the majority, we have yielded to the will of the members for the greater good. We will never compromise our union’s tradition of integrity and solidarity.
Local 1300 has been a united front and have fought for the rights and dignity of its members for the past 68 years. As I start my second term, my goal is to further unite Local 1300. I am excited about working with the new board members on this and other important initiatives. The board members each bring dedication and commitment to moving this union forward. I thank you for electing such a talented group of leaders.
In closing, I encourage everyone to get more involved, come out to union monthly meetings, and let your voice be heard. We are only as powerful as the dedication and commitment of the members we represent, so lend your strength in voice to our efforts and we will be unstoppable in fighting for your rights.
Loyalty, honesty, integrity are not an option, it is required.
In solidarity,
David McClure
President/Business Agent.
